The result so far: My wife put on 3lb., I myself 7lb. in weight-and took weeks to reduce to normal; our rain-gear nearly rotted away until the weather broke and we made more friends-in seven weeks than we could possibly have expected in as many
years.

It is true that we did find meat and butter rather scarce commodities as soon as we started to live in a flat and to run our own household; but apart from these two shortages we found that in everything else there is at least ten times more to be had than is universally believed outside the United Kingdom. And in the majority of restaurants -most tourists after all est in them-prices are surprisingly reasonable..
We also found--to our most pleasant surprise that a day when the sun did not shine nearly all day was an excep- tion rather than the rule.
And the so-called haughty, stuck-up Briton?
