Conservative parties, led by Premier Shigeru Yoshida's "Liberals", took a huge lead tonight as returns poured in from Japan's first election since the end of the Allied occupation.

Incomplete returns apparently assured the election of 152 candidates to the Lower House of! the Japanese Diet from the three parties generally At stake in today's regarded as Conservative. elections were 466 seats.

The Liberals led the sweep; 117 of their can- didates won seats in returns reported up to 10.30 p.m., Hongkong Time. The Progressives won 27 seats and the Right-wing Socialists eight.

Incomplete figures indicated that 35,000,000 Japanese went to the polls, or 75 per cent of the electorate. The turn-out broke the previous record of 74 per cent set in 1949.
