Strikers Heed Plea To Return
Los Angeles, Sept. 26. Thirteen thousand AFL ma- chinists today heeded an urgent back-to-work plea by President Truman and agreed to resumo vital fighter plane production at the Douglas Aircraft Company's El Segundo plant during new negotiations in Washington.
A company spokesman an- nounced, after an emergency meeting with representatives of the Union
and Federal mediators, that the strikers would go back to work under the terms of their old contract until a new agreement is reach- cd.
Representatives of 25,000 workers striking against five Aircraft Corpora- of Lockheed tlon's seven Southern California plants went into a closed dis- cussion with the management and mediators immediately after the Douglas agreement was reached.
Mr Truman last night appeal- ed to the AFL International Association of Machinists and the two companies to halt strikes, which cut off produc→ tion of the newest Jet intercep-
