Since

Partition

Karachi.

Considerable progress has been made in the development of Pakistan's communications system since the Partition of India five years ago.

The communications system in the Indian Empire had been built on the basis of the needs of the entire sub-Continent, and it was thrown out of gear when Partition was effected. That part of it inherited by Pakis- tan was inadequate to meet the needs of the newly-born State.

&

After five years, however, confusion has given way to stability and the teething problems of building up huge communications organisation have been successfully tackled one by one.

The following survey, prepared by the Pakistan Information Omec, gives some idea of the ex- tent of the progress that has been made in each of the main branches of the communications system.
