STILL THE SAME OLD CHELSEA - EXCEPT FOR HALF AN HOUR
By DENNIS HART
Chelsea have had many great players in their time. Men like Vivian Woodward, Hugie Gallacher, Tommy Walker, Tommy Lawton, whose names have been household words in
Soccer.
Yet the club has still to have its name inscribed on either the FA Cup or the, League Championship Shield. Why?
There are perhaps two main reasons. The first is that although often playing delightful football the side has lacked a certain something, which, in modern sport, is fashionably known as the 'killer instinct,' or the will to win.
Ted
Drake
The second reason perhaps explains the first. The crowd at Stam- ford Bridge is one of the most unbiased in soccer. Most of the spectators go just to watch a game of football, and not, as at other grounds to cheer their team on and try to carry them to victory by vocal support.
When the Chelsea directors After half an hour, almost as appointed

A MISERABLE SEASON
SEASON AHEAD FOR THE POOLS EXPERTS? One Surprise Follows Another In The Football League
By TOM FINNEY
(England and Preston North End Outside Right)
Most Football League clubs at time of writing have now played four games. As I write these notes, only one, Grimsby Town, possesses the maximum number of points. That in itself is strange. But it is, I think, a prelude to what is going to be an unusual season. Already in fact we have seen enough surprise results to keep the pools experts miserable for the whole campaign.
Take as an example Fulham, who were relegated from the First Division last May. A week ago they were trounced at Leicester by six goals to one. Five days later Fulham visited Birmingham City, who have probably the strongest defence in the Second Division. What happened? Fulham won 4-1. And Leicester, until then unbeaten with a goal average of 9-1, went down 2-5 against a Southampton side who, previously, had not gained a single point.
