WILL WEST BROMWICH BE THE NEXT LEAGUE CHAMPIONS?
By DENNIS HART
Thus early in the season it is difficult if not impossible to spot the eventual League Champions of 1952/53, Given the choice of four, teams the task would be considerably lightened but still not easy.
Assuming for one moment, however, that such a choice has to be made, then early season form suggests that the teams to follow are Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Manchester United.
West Bromwich are already being spoken of us the next Champlons. Two great opening victories, the first at White Hart Lane and the second at home to Newcastle, certainly indicate a revival of fortune for the "Throstles" who only gained promotion from the 2nd Division four seasons ago.

But, like all successful teams since the war, with the exception of Arsenal who alone can pluy the smash and grab gome, West Bromwich rely upon their attack to produce the results.
Here no-one is more prominent than le Ronale Alten, the former Port Vale outside-left who, since his conversion to has been one of the most prolife goal-scorers in the country.

The four-man England attack gave the Scots defence one of the biggest hammerings it has ever had and narrowly failed to save the game, being beaten only three-two. Master-mind of the England attack was Finney, not the sometimes hesitant Finney of wing fame but a clever, foraging, scheming, thrustful, hard-shoot- ing inside-forward.

The duel tomorrow Deepdale between Allen and Preston centre-half Marston will probably decide the destination of the points.
Wolves niso started off in great style and appeared to be a much improved team for the aequial- tion during the close season of England 'B' international Taylor, formerly with Luton.

The "no more overdrafts” order from the banks looks like being a freedom charter for the struggling Third Division clubs.
Manager Jimmy Sced, ever the standard-bearer of junior development, says that the day of the big transfer is passed. "Now that the big clubs can no longer put down £30,000 for a player and guarantee the money to the bank they will have to look around and cultivate their own talent as we have always done at Charlton," he said.
