A Consistent Shot-saver -The Chip To The Pin

By MAX FAULKNER

The point I want to talk about here is one of the strokes I am practising pretty hard-that vital chip to the pin which is such a consistent shot saver. If the average handicap man took pains to perfect it as he could so easily-it would save him a steady half dozen shots each round.“

You know yourself how often you have played two perfect shots right to the edge of the green and then taken another four shots to get down. Just watch-suc- cessive fours come up to the lust green, as you are sipping your drinks on Sunday, and check up how many players muff, fluff, or stab that Inst little simple run to the pin.

In the first place, I never take

it for granted. I never nssume that I can play it well all the time. I keep up regular prac- lice at it. It demands it. After all one is playing this shut to a maller of inches-not yards-of the hole.

As to the method of striking I think the best generalisation сол make is that it should be played alaust like a putt---lyst, naturally, degree more firmly.

Season

Recreio's decisive 5-0 win over Taikoo last Saturday assured them of the First Division title, and brought practically to a close the 1951-1952 league season.

There now remain only 13 more matches in the First Division, two in the Second and one in the Third before the season's fixtures are completed.

Although the Recreio team started the league with more than average luck, their success was a deserving one.
