:
Jack Young, the 39-year-old Middlesex and England left arm slow bowler, in lils benefit year, became the first bowler to take 100 wickets this season when he dismissed Donald Cary, of Derbyshire, in the match at Derby today, Young's feat is all the more meritorious considering that he has been handicapped this summer by a badly swollen knee, and în addition he broke the top/joint of the little finger of his right hand against Hampshire at Lord's last month.

Manchester, July 16. Some light rain fell here during the evening when the weather outlook for to- morrow's Test at Old Traf- ford was anything but pro-p mising.
The rain would not affect the Test pitch which was covered 24 hours before the scheduled start play, but local experts con- tidered that the side batting firs! might find the pitch lively before
of
lunch.
If past matches at Old Trafford are any criteria, the game which starts tomorrow will be largely governed by the weather.
In the last 23 years, seldom has Test progressed on this ground which has not been interrupted.
