Detailed Figures Given In The House Of Commons
London, July 10.
Of the £120 millions voted originally under the Colonial Develop ment and Welfare Act of 1946, and the supplementary £20 millions Voted two years ago, the total money actually issued for approved sthëmës up till March 31 this year was £56,346,571.
How slowly the money has been expended is shown by the fact that in the six years of C. D. and W. operation, the past year's expen- diture of $14,470,682 was the, largest of any year since 1946-47.
Another £79 millions för approved schemes have been allotted, either to ter- ritories or for général resedich affecting colonies.
The intention of the Act was provision for ten years intensive development, ending in 1050 Shortage of materials and of men, however, contributed right at the start to delays in proceed- ing with schemes,
and П troubled country like Malaya, of course, has been further hampered in development work: Some colonies have now dropped the 10-years
formula.
Questions are now being asked, about the future rate of spend-"
