Mr Robert Egbert Sandland. a Staffordshire magistrate, and his 40-year-old wife, Ids, were drowned in Poolo Harbour, Dorset
Mr and Mrs Sandland, who Hved nt Whitehouse, Gold- thorne-road, Wolverhampton, had left their 35ft boat, the Rianti, and had sailed the 300 yards from Brownsea Island to harbour steps in a the main 12ft. dinghy to dine with frends at the Sandbank Hotel.
Shortly after midnight, they again boarded their dinghy, ond in rough weather headed for the Rland. Mrs Sandland'e banilbeg and an electric torch, st were found on the Riant's cockpit ledge.
Police bellevo Mre Sandland slipped into the rough water while trying to get aboard and that her husband'ved after her in a rescue attempt. Both
