THIS COULD WELL BE THE GREATEST YEAR FOR EMPIRE ATHLETES
Says McDONALD
BAILEY
The year 1952 will probably go down in athletics history as the best-ever for British and Commonwealth performers. I have seen enough, both in England and various parts of the world, during the past twelve months or so, to be able to make such a prediction without having to hold my tongue in my cheek.
The reign of the USA in the track events is coming to a close. And we may also provide one or two shake-ups in the field events, for so long dominated by the -Continentals,
Focal point of this year, of course, is Helsinki. It is there that I look for our crowning triumphs and a bigger proportion of gold medals for Britain's athletes. than at any previous Olympic meeting.
