WHY DID ARMY FAIL TO WIN THE FIRST DIVISION SOCCER
LEAGUE
CHAMPIONSHIP?
Asks "MAO YAN”
As this is my last article, I wish to look back on the league pro gramme which Army have just completed, and also 19 comment shortly about the Army team for 1952-3.
Army finished off their last three league fixtures with a good flourish, scoring nine goals against two. The 1-0 defeat of Sing Tao did not reflect in any way the superiority of the Soldiers over Sing Tao, and as reported in the Press at the time, the team really did play fast, aggressive, and clever football.

Then And Now
By Henry Longhurst
Some time ago there was published in the United States a vast and fascinatingly readable volume called "The Story of American Golf," over, which I have before now whetted the reader's appetite, adding that it costs the equivalent of about five and a half guineas in dollars.
