London, Mar. 30. The situation in the textile industry looks less like a temporary recession and more like the beginning of a slump for every day that

passes.

It might be easier to agree with the leaders of the industry in their contention that this is a trade recession and not a slump if the dif- ficulties facing Lancashire were not shared by cotton industries all over the world. But, unfortunately, they are.

Reports from all quarters of the world tell the same story. n decision has already been taken to cut back cotton production by announcement that Britain will issue no further licences for the Japanese grey, cloth precipitated a sharp fall in the price of cotton Osaka market.
