Top Secret File On Alleged Wartime Massacre Lost
*GAN (
Washington, Feb. 4.
Colonel John van Vliet, Jr., told Congressional investigators today that as a German prisoner of war he became "convinced" that the Rus sians had committed the mass murder of 10,000 Polish officers in 1940 at the Katyn Forest near Smolensk.
Colonel van Vliet testified, however, that he had no idea what hap pened to the 1945 top secret report he made on the massacre. He said Ee turned it over to Maj-Gen. Clayton Bissell, then top intelligence officer in Washington:
The Army has admitted that the report mysteriously vanished from the the select Pentagon files. General Bissell is expected to testify later before House Committee investigating the wartime Katyn atrocities. The chairman, Mr Ray Madden, said the Committee hoped the investigation eventually would "serve to convict the guilty at the International' Court".
Allegations Repeated By Red Radio
San Francisco, Feb. 4. The official Chinese Red radio today charged the United States with "actively financing and directing the activities" of Chinese Na- tionalist troops under Lieut- enant General Li Mi on the border of Burma and Red China,
