London, Nov. 19.
A favourite topic of soc- cer controversy whether League clubs should deve- lop their own players ur buy ready-made stars -- has been revived by the seler tion of England's two new
caps at inside-forward, Len Phillips, of Portsmouth, and Jackie Sewell, of Sheffield Wednesday.
Sewell was the subject of record transfer fee of £34,500! when he left Notte County for Sheffield Wednesday late last
season.
Phillips cost Portsmouth, his une professional club, only £10 signing on fee.

ARMY FOOTBALL NOTESA
Some Reflections On Halsingborg's Visit
By "MAU YAN”
In this week's article, I would like to go back to the Charity Match when Combined Chinese played, the Com- bined Services Team at Causeway Bay. This Combined Services Team was a very weak one, due principally to injuries to some of the good Army players. voj
However, the 'Combined Chinese Team received shock because this weak Combined Services Team was, at one stage of the game, losing only 3-4 to them. I do not know how much truth there was in it, but I was advised that the Combined Chinese Team was having a try-out in this match for the game on the following Saturday, and it was therefore to be the All-Hongkong Team to play the Halsingborg visiting eleven.

This visiting team from Sweden has so far taught the many thousanda of spectators who have watched them play, two lessons. The Arst orie to be understood is that this is not a Swedish national team, but merely an individupi Swedish Club, just as KMB, S. China and Sing Tao are in our own First-Division League,
I think that a great number of the thousands of spectators The Halsingborg Swedish touring team will play the who have so far watched them last game of their three-match series in Hongkong this play are under the impression
that this is a Swedish team afternoon at the Club ground starting at 4 o'clock.
This is not so, and therefore This customary last match against the Hongkong the first lesson learned is that Combined Chinese by any visiting team has in the past the best Hongkong put out last been regarded as the best match of a series, but many Saturday is by no means as have probably revised their opinion on this after the con- good as an ordinary club team

on the differences between British and American golfers. Apart from the obvious fact that the latter have about. an eight-to-one superiority, and ought presumably to win by sheer weight of numbers, one difference, which-I have not seen commented upon before, begins to stand out more and more on successive visits to América.
