London, Nov. 15. British silk manufacturers declare they have evidence that Japanese firms are copying their de- signs and using them in samples to attract markets in England and India.
They are concerned that the same position will arise as before the war when there was wholesale copying of British designs.
Manufacturers in Macclesfield, Cheshire's big silk and rayon centre, have approached their Con- servative MP, Air Commodore A.V. Harvey, in an at tempt to forestall the Japanese.

The upshot is that Air Com- modore Harvey will ask the President of the Board of Trade, Mr Thornycroft, in the House, next week if he is aware that Japanese dirms are already" copying British
designs in textiles, and if so, what steps he is taking to protect the industry.
Alr Commodore Harvey told me today that he had heard of several instances of such copying. Japanese samples with British designs were already making an appearance in India as well as at home.
"On pre-war experience," he daid, "it is probably inevitable London, Nov. 14.
