THE VICTORY WAS LARGELY NOEL ARTHY'S AND GERRY GOSANO'S

A brilliant bowling spell of five wickets for 27 runs by Gerry Gosano and a faultless knock of 46 runs not out by Noel Arthy yester- day enabled the Colony XI to beat the Hongkong and Singapore Com- bined Services by six wickets in their three-day match at Chater Road.

The Colony dismissed the remaining six Services batsmen in 17.3 overs yester- day with the addition of only 36 runs to their overnight second innings score of 110. With already a lead of 44 runs on the first innings the Colony started rather shakily in their seemingly easy task of knocking up 108 runs in 254 minutes during their second lease of the wicket to win the match.

Four quick wickets fell in succession for 63 runs, mainly through the haste of the bats- men to end the match before the tea interval. A patient skip- per's innings x 25 not out by

London, Oct. 14.

More than 30 runners are expected to go to the post at Newmarket on Wednesday for the big backers' stayers' handicap, the Cesarewitch, named after the heir to the Russian throne more than a century ago.

This two and a quarter mile event is as open as ever, as can be seen from the fact that more than 20 of the runners have had quotations in the betting and the favourite, Three Cheers, is almost a 10 to one chance.
