By ALEC GREAVES Hongkong's new Roman Catholic Bishop, Monsignor Lawrence Bianchi, is miss- ing in Red China. His fate is unknown.

Monsignor Bianchi suc- ceeded to the Bishopric on Monday when Bishop Henry Paschal Valtorta, died at the age of 68. But he is held by the Chinese Com- munista, and the Catholic Church authorities here do not, know where he is or what has happened to him. After his consecration here in 1940 as Bishop Coadjutor, Mon. signor Blanchi returned to his own mission at Holtung, coast | town, about 100 miles northeast of Hongkong. He applied for permission to leave China when Bishop Valtorta became 11 earlier this year, but was not granted an exit permit.

Не renewed his application at Walchow, East River town 60 miles north of Hongkong. The Reds responded by putting him and other priests there under house rest.

They

were con- Ained to the mission grounds, but no charge was ever brought against them.
