IP KOON-HUNG TAKES CERNIK TO FIVE SETS IN 22-HOUR BATTLE
(From Our Own Correspondent)
London, June 25.
One of the best performances of the opening day of the Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon was that of the Hongkong, Chinese and Malayan Champion, Ip Koon-hung, who was narrowly beaten in five sets by V. Cernik, the exiled Czechoslovak Davis Cup player.
Ip, who arrived in England three weeks ago, was on the court for two and
u half hours in one of the longest matches of the afternoon.
After losing the first set 4-6, he won the next two by the same margin and in
a great struggle was beaten 7-5 in the fourth."
