A British doctor com* plains that salaries under the National Health Ser- vice have taken the medical profession back to the "barber-surgeon" days of three centuries ago.
As a matter of fact, said Dr A. K. P. Tobin in a letter to the Medical Journal, barberg are now a lot better off than Burgeons.

Not only that, but a doctor is not paid for overtime, works oll hours of the night and is often interrupted on Sundays, Dr Tobin
sald.
"It is a sober thought for the young practitioner of the future," he said, "I hope our Ministers of Health will not exploit too long the love medical men and women huve for their calling."

BIG INCREASE IN U.S. MILITARY AID TO THE FAR EAST Truman Reports On Mutual Defence Programme
Washington, June 25.
President Truman, in a report to the Congress said today the United States has stepped up several-fold its military aid shipments to the Philippines, Burma, Formosa, Indo-China and Thailand, ·
The report said the Mutual Defence Assistance Programme in the Far East, although far smaller than the programme in Europe, is of particular urgency because MDAP equipment is actually being used in combat against Communist-led forces, notably in Indo-China and the Philippines, and because local military production facilities are in con- |trast to Europe, either extremely limited or non-existent.
This comment was in President Truman's regular semi-annual report to the Congress on the MDAP for the period Oct. 1, 1950, to March 31, 1951.
