HONGKONG SELECTION XI PUT UP INSPIRED GAME TO DRAW WITH HENDON
By "SPIV"
Once again the Hongkong Selection Soccer XI, generally regarded
as the second best Colony team, covered themselves with glory when be- fore a crowd of about 10,000 yesterday they held the visiting Hendon Football Club to a 2-2 draw after a scoreless first half.
Hopelessly outplayed for almost the first 30 minutes, the local XI gradually came into the picture with inspired play and effective tactics.
It was they who opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half and Although Hendon came back with two quick goals to take the lead, a confident Hong- kong X suon got the equaliser, and followed it immediately with another goal which, however, was disallowed by the referee after he had pointed to the centre pot. It appeared that the ball had gone out at the touchline before the goal was cored.

On a ground that was water logged in parts and bared with mud spots, the visitors heavier build put them at a slight dis- advantage.
This was particularly nollee-“ able during the sharp cut-ins for the "into the open space" passes, and two vertain goals went a-begging through this cause.
BRILLIANT HEADING Conspicuous features of their play, however, were again their brilliant

Last-minute Substitute Dashed Barrow's Hopes In Rugby League Cup Final

A thirty-year-old last-minute substitute was the outstanding personality of the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final which drew over 95,000 spectators to a rain- swept Wembley on the first Saturday in May and brought tradition-steeped Wigan their fourth Cup success.
