Lehman Backs Despatch Of U.S. Troops
New York, May 1. Senator Herbert Lehman, who sailed for Europe by the Queen Mary today, told the Press that he strongly favoured a policy of sending United States troops to Western Europe to bolster their morale and give them lealership.
W
abandon the free countries of Western Europe, we would be losing 280,000,000 of the most highly-trained and skilled people of the
world, with the exception of ourselves, and surrender that strength to Russia."
Mr Lehman favoured chang- ing the Italian peace treaty to permit the Italians to train and arm a larger number of men than possible at present.
Senator Lehman will attend the assembly of the World Health Organisation in Geneva. -United Press.
