More Manpower In Britain For Armament Industry

London, Apr. 24.

Further indications of the effect of the British de- fence programme on the manpower situation are given by employment figures issued by the Ministry of Labour.

They show that unemployment fell by March 12. to 274,900, its lowest level since June last year.

While there is normally af decline in the numbers of un- employed during February, the new level represented drop of about 27,000 over the four weeks, compared with 25,500 over the same period in 1950.

Mennwhile, the total work- ing population, which usually shows a decline in February, had risen by the end of the month by 12,000 to 23,201,000, Of the aggregate increase 0,000 were men,

This year's fair, with a rough evaluation of exhibits, &c., approaching £10,000,000, is the first event in the six-months' Festival of Britain season.

The fair opens at 9.30 am,

on Monday, April 30, and will run until 4 p.m. on Friday, May 11. It will not be open on Sun- day, May 6,
