THE UNDERDOGS HOLD THE YES, IT'S JACK DOYLE ON THE FLOOR
LIMELIGHT IN THE COLONY BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS
By "ARGONAUT"
The underdogs, rather than the champions and favouriter, held the limelight in the last two nights' programmes of the Hongkong Bad minton Open Championships.
Three major upsets were nearly produced and, although the favoured pairs did finally pull through, the magnificent fights put up by these up and coming players of both sexes provided two nights of thrilling badminton, and what is more pleasing still, a very favourable augury for the future of the game here.
Last night at Club de Recreio, a sterling performance was given by W. F. Foo nad Miss Dorothy Lam of Chinese YMCA, when they extended Robert Tay and Miss Marie Ribeiro, the Senior Mixed Doubles title holders for the last two years, to three gruelling sets.
With a tié more luck, they might have earned for them- selves the distinction of creat- ing the Arst major upset of the season.

Says FRANK ROSTRON
Melbourne, Mar. 1.
With all due respect to Lindsay Hasett's astuteness and artistic batting, amazing Freddie Brown, whose original selection as a corpulent 40-year-old_most_of_as criticised, has proved measurably near enough to be considered the world's best contemporary Test Captain.
The England team's final feat in winning the Fifth Test has exceeded the wildest expectations, but it is still unavoidably obvious that the team has been carried largely on the broad shoulders of Len Hutton, Alec Bedser, Godfrey Evans and Freddie Brown.
The glaring weakness all along was the lack of middle batsmen and the lack of any single genuine all-rounder outside of Brown himself.
The unexpected batting weakness revealed by the Doubles Australians in these Tests and to our
