AND ANNOUNCEMENT
of the first talk in the series 'Parliament at Work,' Strauss) - Sack with to be broadcast over Radio Hongkong at 10.16 to- morrow night. There are six talks in this scries by Kenneth Boswell, Professor of Modern Studies at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, which trace the history of Parliamentary procedure.
Professor Boswell's purpose is to show that the rules and traditions of the "Mother of Parlia- ments are not relics of à dead past, but that they are founded on practical considerations of how discussion should be conducted. The talks contain dramatised sketches illustrating various aspects of Parliamentary procedure, and in the first one the speaker shows, by contrasting a rowdy argument with a quiet and well-conducted meeting, what are the essentials of effective discussion in a de-
mocratic regime.
On Tuesday at 9.15 p.m. listeners will be able to hear the radio adaptation of the play by Jean-Paul was produced in Sartre, "Crime Passionel," which Paris--under the title "Les Mains Sales" and sub- scquently in London and New York, with great
success.
a
In "Crime Passionel," Jean-Paul Sartre, writing dramatist with strong political views, has affairs chosen a theme with a special relevance to
Com- in Eastern Europe. The centrál character is a
a mythical state caught between munist partisan in the advancing Russians and the Allies at the end of the the late war. He oversteps the party line and party chief orders his liquidation, the task being en- trusted to his secretary, an introspective, self-torturing young student. The tension mounts steadily and the final twist is as ironical as it is unexpected.
