Reverses Plea: Sentenced
Pleading not guilty before Mr Justice Gould on arraignment last Monday to a charge of know- ingly uttering a forged $10 banknote, Ng Yau, 48, rattan worker, reversed his plea and admitted he had committed the offence after the Prosecutor had commenced his opening address to the Jury at the Criminal Sessions this morning.
The Acting Chief Justice, Mr E. H. Williams, before whom Ng was on trial, told accused that the maximum penalty laid down by the law for the type of offence he had committed was life impri- sonment, but he (the Judge) intended to pass on accused a much lighter sentence than he usually imposed.
