The reason for this is that inside this, building o centre has been set up to teach these, under- privileged children some useful handicraft, in addition to elementary schooling, so that when they grow up they will be able to work for their own support,

But that alone has not made these children love the place so much. There is also A human element which above. all has endcared Welfar Building, and all those asse- ciated with it, to their young impressive minds.
A "China Mali" reporter paid visit to the centre the other day,
dfound the children at their lessons under the soliciteus care! of their teachers-all voluntary workers who have given up. thels leisure hours for these under- privileged children.
One would instinctively associ- ate Aith and uncouth behaviour with slum children, but this was far from the case with the child- ren at this handicraft centre.
They were all clean ard well- mannered and while their clothes might be old and mended in more than one place, they were scru- pulously clean.
"These children are taught the fundamentals of cleanliness and
orderless, and the irst thing they do when they come to the building is to have a clean bath. Some of them come back in the alternoon for another bath The first
emphasis is cleanliness in thei home," our informant, a voluntary leader, said.
"They are tought to be tidy and orderly, and each child' is given a paper bag into which it. put its things, instead of having them strown all over the place.”
Needlework
Our reporter was taken into another bright, well-ventilated rooms, where girls ranging from eight to 12 years old were be Ing taught needlework. They were adept at their work, den... pite their age, and, what was more, they enjoyed their work. "The girls attend handicratu
