New York, October 18. Can Communism be legislated out of existence? That is a difficult ques- tion. Strong arguments have been made for and against anti-Com- munist measures enacted by some 30 of the world's 70 nations. The United States Congress recently enacted, over President Truman's veto, a law designed to control Communists and Communism by required registration in peace-time and by round-ups of Reds and their sympa- thisers in times of national emergency.

The Associated Press asked 1 Its correspondents in some of the countries where anti-Com- munist legislation is in force how these restrictive laws worked out in practice.

Here are their answers:

Greece

Certain clauses in the Greek constitution were suspended and special legislation enacted in the legol fight against Communism.

More than three years ago the Government passed legislation to remove civil servants believed to be Communists or fellow-travel- Jers.

Constitutional guarantee of the Inviolability of the home was suspended and laws were passed permitting police to make searches anywhere and any time subversive action was being taken. Another clause, requiring a preliminary hearing for any arrested person
