High United States officials said today that the State Department had under study a long- range programme for economic assistance to Middle Eastern nations and South East Asia which might call for the expenditure of as much as US$300,000,000 a year for tho next five years.
The study, which is still in the preliminary stages, has been concentrated on the need for in- creasing food production in these areas. In- dia, Pakistan, Ceylon, Afghanistan, Iran, Israel and Egypt were mentioned as nations which might receive such assistance,
