A unique sight on the roads of Britain in the Whitsun holiday traffic of cars new! and old was the doyen of them all-an 1809 Wolseley, which took part in the 1,000 Miles Trial of 1900 and now, half a century later, was driven from John O'Groats to Two Land's End, a distance of 869 miles,

Driver of the Wolseley, which cost £270 when built, is St. John C. Nixon, retired insurance manager, whose home is in Sur- rey, and who himself took part in the original Trial.

Mr. Nixon notleed the old car att Cowley while gathering material for his recently publish- ed book on Wolseley history, and remembered its excellent per- formance on the severe course the 1900 Trial, which did much to establish motoring in the popular mind.
