FOR WAR IF RUSSIA ATTACKS WEST EUROPE Republican Party leader on world situation
Washington, June 8.
Senator Robert Taft, of Ohio, leader of the Republican Party, today de- clared that the United States should be ready to go to war if Russia moved into Western Europe.
He told a Press conference that he was optimistic, however, that the Rus-
sions would not start a war.
With the exception of the arms given to Britain, the American Govern- ment cannot be sure that the arms given to European countries can or will be used against Russia, he said.
