Chinese seizure of British ships a serious matter
London, April 19.
Oritain takes a serious view of the detention by the Chinese Nationalist authorities of two British ships which have been running the Nationalist blockade of Chinese Communist porta, Mr. Ernest Davies, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Offics.; told the House of Commons this afternoon.
He announced that while attempting to enter the port of Amoy, the 584-ton motor ves sel Ethol Moller and the Tai Ping Shaan (165 tons) had been taken by the Nationalist authorl- ties. Both ships were detained.
The British Consul in Talwan had told the Provincial authorities of the serious view taken of this development, he added.
Up to the present no satisfactory explanation had been received or Information given. But the matter is continuing to be pressed-Router.
SULTAN CONFESSES TO HAVING GIVEN ORDER FOR MURDER
Jakarta, April 19.
The Sultan of Pontianak, Hamid II, has confessed to ordering the rebol loader, Captain "Turk" Westerling, to launch an attack during a meeting of the Indonesian Cabinot on January 24 and shoot three of those present, it was officially announced here tonight.
The official statement said that the Sultan of Jogjakarta, the Minister of Defence, Dr. Ali Bidiardjo, the Secretary-General of the Defence Minis- try, and Colonel Simatupang, the acting Chief of Staff of the Federal Armed Forces, were those named to be killed.

A new diecase resembling amalipox has been found here. Belentists have so far failed to isolate the virus.
Eleven cases have been re- ported in the past eight months.
The first was a young Eu- ropean suspected of suffering from smallpox. This diagnosis proved negative and it was then thought that he had con- tracted a condition known as rickettalapox. This diagnosis also proved incorrect.
In all 11 cases, no contact with smallpox cases could be found, and all the victims had previously been vaccinated.- Associated Press.
