CANTON'S TRADE REVIEWED

Washington, January 18.

The U.S. Secretary of Stato, Dean Acheson, hopes that a third force-naither Nationalist nor Communist-wilf spring up among the Chi- naso people. But, he added at a news con- ference, he does not know of any such development on the horizon.

Mr Acheson also had this to say on the Chino situation. "From the way in which the Chinese Communists are treating Americans in their Territory, it is an obvious conclusion that they do not want American recognition."

U.S. RELEASES TEXT OF WALLACE REPORT

Washington, January 18.

The former Vice-President, Mr. Henry Wallace, K.C. WU'S

advised the late President Roosevelt in 1944 that Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek lacked intelligence or political strength to run post- war China.

The advice was contained in a "summary report" which Mr. Wallace made on his visit to China.

A copy of the hitherto un- published document was made available to newsnien today after is existence had been discussed in the Senate debate on the China crisis.

In the report, Mr Wallace pres dicted that leaders of post-war China would be "brought for- ward by evolution or revolution" and I now seems more likely 19 be the latter.

He advised Mr. Roosevelt to work for "enfion" of the Chinese Government and made it clear that he sought a resurgence of "liberal" elements,

The docimient was made Democratic public by

Senator Herbert O'Connor along with a note from Mr. Walince express- Secretary ing surprise that the
