BRITAIN'S ATTITUDE ON JAPANESE PEACE
In Favour Of Quick Signing Of Treaty
FORECAST OF TERMS
London, November 7.
Mr. Ernest Bevin, the Foreign Secretary, now favours a separate peace treaty with Japan if Russia and the Chinese Communist Government continue to insist that negotiations must be con- ducted through the Council of Foreign Ministers, it was learned from a usually reliable source in London today.
Mr. Bevin, it was understood, pressed strongly during his September dis- cussions with Mr. Dean Acheson, the US. Secretory of State, in Wa- shington for some means of ending the state of war with Japan.
It would be unthinkable for British opinion, conscious of the immense part played in the Far Eastern war by the Dominion Governments, to accept a peace settlement through a body composed at most of the "Big Five."
British officials in London signed a peace which did not have today denied a press report the support of its two
powerful neighbors.

JAPANESE OPINION ON TREATY
Jap Membership OF UN Forecast
Lake Success, November 7. Eventual Japanese membership in the United Nations was forecast today by the United States Ambassador et large, Dr. Philip Jessup, It would be the end result of the American policy of encouraging increased participation by Japan in the work of international agencies, he said.
Dr. Jessup, member of a panel of experts selected several months ago by the Secretary of State, Mr. Dean Acheson, to help work out a new United States Far East- ern policy, is now serving as the United States delegate to the fourth United Nations Assembly here.
In a United Press interview, Dr. Jessup said, "It is the sincere hope of the US. Government that Japan will gradually expand
her connections with internation-
al organisations and this, at the proper time, would include full United Nations membership."
