London, October 27. The Minister of Health, Aneurin Bevan, disclosed that the British Government is cracking down on foreign tourists who come here only to get free wigs, dentures and operations under the national health programme.
He told a press conference that while legitimate tourists would still get free treatment, orders have been issued to immigration authorities to stop those who come here solely for free medical service.
"Our health plan should not be one of our chief tourist attractions, he said
At the same time, he said the plan will cost roughly £300,000.- ou this year.
He refused to disclose how large a deficiency appropriation would be needed to cover it but the original budget called for nearly £260,000,000.
