Cripps Broadcasting Royal Family At Highland Games
Formal Announcement London Stock Exchange, Banks Closing Today
25 PER CENT CUT SEEN
London, September 18.
A well-informed British source reported today that Sir Stafford Cripps, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will announce the deva. luation of the pound sterling tonight.
The present exchange value of the British pound is four dollars and three cents. The extent of the cutdown in the pound was not immediate- ly disclosed. The informant said it was unlikely it would be more than 25 per cent, and probably less.
The report came just after Sir Stafford Cripps had arranged to make a
special, broadcast to the British people on Sunday night.
