An Australian Reports on a 7 H.P. Renault
I RECENTLY purchased a hip. Renault and have just returned from 400-mile trip over the Blue Mountains, including a climb up Mount Canobolas 4,650 t. just outside the western. town of Orange. A careful check of petrol was made: the trip included much climbing over the Blue Mountains, but on a beautifully surfaced highway. The load was two, men with golf bags and requirements for a week-end in the country.
I might say that I own a Pontiac and Willys, and have always driver
ven American cats because of their roominess, reserve of power, etc., but I needed a small economical, easy parking runabout The Renaults "had" "just arrived and I was one of the first to get one. The coil I.F.S. appealed to me. However. I decided to give the little car a real test. When the mileage recorder showed 500 miles, I had the speed governor removed and minor faults corrected Australiah plugs which were quitunsatisfactory, were removed and replaced with English Champions, and off we went the Blue Mountains I changed down to second only three times and took curves at surprisingly fast speeds, probably because of the wide-rimmed tyres. My cruising speed was between 45 mph. sometimes for a distance of 40 miles or even more, and when 1 arrived at Orange 1 felt less tired than when driving the Pontiac.
Crossing
I think the hille Renault is beautifully proportioned and it is much admired. In Molong. 22 miles from Orange, i stopped the little car outside the local "pub" and created so much interest that I actually stopped the drinking for over half an hour as everybody

Petrol consumption for my trip of 500 miles worked out at 56 m.p... which was very good considering the long clumps over -the-mountains. Since my return I have driven over Razor Back Mountain just out of Sydney and on the Hume Highway with four aboard averaging 10 stone. It's a long, steady climb with no let up. but the Renault went over-in-top and never went below 30
.p.h. A really wonderful performance for a 7 hp. car.
