TOUR OF DEFENCES IN NEW TERRITORIES
(Editor's Note: The following is our reporter's impressions of a tour of the border aleas 'yesterday. It is not intended as an overall picture of the Colony's defonca measures in the New Territories, but simply os o descrip- tion of current conditions around the border. Within the next few months, Hong Kong will bo the vital "testing ground" of the Red otti- tude and policy towards the Western powers. This Colony might also be involved in a shooting war in its own defence, and it most certainly will be involved in a war of nervos, once the Communists are on the border zone. Yesterday, the "China Mail" was taken on an ex- tensive tour of the New Territories, includ- ing the restricted border zone, to observe some of the defence -activity and see the geographical problems which the military must deal with to insure a successful defence, if it is necessory.
