Chinese Driver Sentenced

A locally enlisted Chinese military driver, Wong Ming. aged 26, of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, was yester- day sentenced to four months' hard labour by Mr. J. Wicks at Kowloon.

Wong was charged with larceny by finding of 34 pyjamą jackets and 35 pyjama trousers from the Shunshulpo Burrucks on August |

18.

A charge of receiving stolen property was withdrawn by the prosecution.

Defendant was ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.

Detective Inspector D. L. Davies, prosecuting, stated that at about 1.45 p.m. on August 13, Mr. Lus- combe ADCI, was sitting on the verandah his quarters above the Kowloon Magistracy,

when he saw a 16-ewt army truck draw up outside 2 Chi Wo Street. He saw a locally enlisted Chinese såldler (defendant), get off the truck and carry a sack into the house.

The prosecuting officer further stated that Mr. Luscombe Inform- ed him of the matter by lete- phone, and, asked him to make a search of the above address.

On arrival at 2 Chi Wo Street, he found a rack conialning 34 aults of pyjamas, valued at $850, on top of a wall the yard of the house.

As a result of further Inquiries, Inspector Davies went to the first floor, and there found defendant lying on the bed.

Asked whether he had brought a sack into the house, defendant replied in the negative, the pro- secuting officer sald,

When questioned, the principal tenant the house said that de- fendant had brought in a sack.

Defendant then admitted that he had found the sack outside the Central Stores Depot, Shum- shulpo Barracks, while on the

way to the mess room to draw his rution of bread.
