Modern British Clocks

Its decline. after The British Clack industry is at present undergoing a great revival. the eighteenth century, when Britain was one of the leading clockmaking countries, was due to reluctance to adopt male pruduction method. A NEW WATCH AND

CLOCK INDUSTRY

By E.D.S. BRADFORD

The horological industry of Britain is today a major and vital port of her economy, with a monthly export target of some £150,000 worth of goods.

The astounding thing about this great industry is that it has literally been reborn. In 1931 about four-fifths of the clocks bought and sold in Britain were imported. Today, however, there is a vast surplus for export-o surplus which is expected to reach over four million clocks a year in the near future.

BRITAIN'S Supplies: TURBINE AIRLINER

Britain's new Viscount alr liner, the first commercial tran- spurt alreraft in the world to fly entirely on gas-turbine engines, has been tested before a group of airline representa-. tives from my "countries. Powered by four new Rolls- Royce gas-turbine engines of 1,400 horse-power each. this airliner can carry 50 passen- дега.

Observers participating in the recent demonstration fight, were amazed by the almost completo lack of noise and vibration during the light. Normal conversation could be carried on and the four sounded little
