SPEECH AT MANCHESTER
Manchester, July 3.
The British Prime Minister, Mr. Clement Attloo, today called Russia one of the most backward countries in the world when he attacked Britain's Communists and others who do not pull their weight.
Addressing an audience of 8,000 people here, Mr. Attlee, leader of the Bri- tish Labour Party, said that there were individuals in Britain who "do all they can to run down this country." He added that there are others who put what they conceive to be their interests above those of the country and their fellow citizens.
Referring specifically to those who indulge in unofficial strikes, Mr. Attlee said it might be just thoughtlessness or a lack of a sense of respon- sibility which caused them to be led away into foolish actions which were serious in their effect on the country.
