ISRAELI-EGYPTIAN AGREEMENT

EXPECTED SOON

Rhodes, February 15.

The deadlock in the armistice talks at Rhodes between the Jews and the Egyptians has been broken and an agreement is close at hand, an informed conference source said today. The source said both delegations had agreed to Auja, the Israeli held town, in the Negev desert near the Egyptian frontier, becoming the headquar ters of the Armistice Supervisory Commission. As such, the town would be a No-Man's-Land, it added.

The question of Auja has blocked the armistice negotiations for the past fort-

night. The Jews have rojected on earlier Egyptian suggestion that the, town, which was captured by the Israelis in their last Negov offensive, should be a neutral zona.

The Armistice Commission in expected to be headed by Brigader General William Riley. Chief of Staff, to the United Nations' acting Mediator, Dr. Ralph Bunch, and include a high-ranking officer-from-both sides.

The delegations are now faced with two main tasks, a decision on Beersheba (the Negev capital captured by the Israells in the the fighting last October), and disposition of Iernell troops in the Eastern Negev.

The Egyptians are believed to have given up their claims, made early in the conference, that Boorahaba should be Arab administered, The taraeils rejected' this, saying that Beersheba not only con- road Bouth to trols the main the Egyptian border, but also two important Cords to the Transjordan front.
