HKVDC Has Last Gathering REGISTRATION OF ALL CITIZENS

Recruiting for the now Hong Kong Defence Force will commence on Monday, February 14, at five centres, three in Hong Kong and two in Kowloon, but the Force will not formally come. into being until March 1.

Simultaneously with recruiting for the Defence Force, there will be voluntary registration of all citizens, both men and women, for non-combatant duty, as an auxiliary of the HKDF, This announcement was made by the Governor, Sir Alexander Grantham, at a dinner hold by the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps at, the China Floot Club yesterday evening. It was the Corps' last meeting before its disbandment at the end of the month.

Out of 47 decorations granted to the entire garrison for the de- fence of Hong Kong, 24 went to The HKVDC, and more were ex- preted. The Corps suffered the highest percentage of casualties. It lost nine officers and 209 other ranks, not including those who died in the prison camps.

Adhering closely to the recommendations of the Hotel Rates Ad- visory Committee,, an Hotels Ordinance to control rates for hotel accommodation and service had its first reading at the Legislative Council meeting yesterday.
