BELOW-Pei Ho Street Subetation, a typical sub- station on the Distribution Network. The substations are-supplied from the Power Station with current 6600 Volts and also Inter. connected with other sub- stations by means of high tension underground cables. By means of transformers in the substations the cur- rent is reduced in voltage to 350 volts and 200 volts for the use of consumers in the district.

The photo shows the lag- ging removed from the steam cylinder, thum enabling the increasing diameters of the stages to be seen. The steam rotor which revalves in the cylinder has 21 rows of blades, varying in length from about 3⁄4" at the High Pres- sure to 16" at the low prex- sure end. Steam at 400 tbm.. pressure per square inch and1 700°F, temperature is supplied through a number of nozzles (depending upon the load) to impinge upon these blades. and a very sensitive governor ensures a apead of 3000 råva per minute

main 'faeder" sending current to one of the substations. The instruments indicate, and record the amount of power taken by the feeder: relays operate and laciate the cable by opening the mein switch should EJ fault develop in the system.
Transformers for Station Auxiliaries. In line with modern practice these 1000 K.V.A. Transformers ard located outalda the building. Their function is to transform current from 6600 volta-to 350 volts for driving the boiler fans, coal, conveyors and other auxiliary machinery for the main generating plant.
