TURBINE

This picture shows the world's first gas turbine.car engine which is being displayed at the British Industries Fair which opened May 3. The engine, invention of Richard Barr'and Geof- frey White, engineers, and Horry Leach, draughtsman fall former members of the Bri tish Government-owned Power Jets-organisa- tion) is the smallest gas turbine ever made.

This engine, design- ed to power lorries, small river craft and Timousines, has no dan- gerous exhaust like the |normal jet engine, and runs on diesel oil, using. a negligible quantity of lubricant: It has no pistons, cylinders, sporking plugs, radia tor or clutch. The in- ventors believe that in a few years a much smaller turbine will power the ordinary family automobile.
