Singapore, Apr. 20.. The three-days old Singa- pore Harbour strike spread to about 11,000 workers today. Work on all ships in the har- bour was at a standstill.
Lightermen, stovedores, wharf labourers, telephone company am- ployees and men at the Palau- brani tin smeltering works ware affected by the strike, which seemed on the vorge of collapse yesterday when most of the 6,000 harbour workers went back to their jobs.
It restarted when 2.500 lighter-' inen stopped work for higher pay. Shipping was fied up today when wharf labourers stopped work, leaving unloaded a cargo of 43.000 tons of rice from Slam. Two British freighters, the 6,757- ton "Chanda," and the 3,703-lon "Charan," sailed for Australia without loading their cargoes of general merchandise,
Yesterday, Mr. J. C. Barry, head of the Singapore Criminal Investigation Department, said the strike of the harbour workers was not "voluntary, spontaneous and full expression of the wil of the workers."--Reuter,
