Shanghal, Mar. 22.
The Communists opened another front in China's protracted civil war during the last 24 hours when five divisions, totalling 60,000 troops under the veteran Red General Nieh Yung- chang, launched a major drive in the Chahar- Shansi border area along the central section of the Peiping-Sulyuan railway. Pro-Government despatches today reported that the Nationalist cities of Yangkao, Chulopao and Lowensho in the north-east corner of Shansi (almost midway between the Great Wall city of Tatung and Kalgan), had already fallen to the Reds.

Ready To Do It Again The Pact If The Need Arises
Nanking, Mar. 22.
“Together we have poured out our wealth and strength to help save the world from domina- tion by totalitarian tyranny. And let there be no mistake about this: if necessary-which God forbid we would do it again," said the British Ambassador, Sir Ralph Stevenson, in Nanking tonight.
He was speaking before a gathering of Empire diplomats and Chinese Government leaders at a farewell dinner to Professor D. B. Copland, Australian Minister, and Mr. K. P. S. Menon, Indian Ambassador. Professor Copland is re- turning to Australia to become Chancellor of the National University, while Mr. Menon is returning to India to take up a post in the In- dian Government.
