THE CHRISTMAS GLOW Let's Do Our Best To Hold On To It This Year

Christinas is a time of gladness and rejoicing, of faith reborn.

Why then do we let it pass from an so quickly? Can we not do something to help' it slay with us longer? We are speaking, of course, not of the outward sym. bols of Christmas so familiar to All of us, but of its reat and inner spirit, which is the very heart of Christmas.

Think back now to las Christ. mins. Tired though you may have been and worn out physically when the day was over, you were, if only for that one day, a better You felt better inside, tarot,

that wanderful feeling was gone-ali of it for some people.

It is

is waid that on December 26 of each year Christmas, for most people, has passed. They have nothing to show but the after. Christmas letdown and the turn to old ways. "It was nice while it lasted," they say, "but now let's gel on to other things."

How Many?

Why should we let it pass from us so quickly, if at alt Ought we not hold onto that Christmas glow, letting the spirit which fill

us and motivates us on this one grent day remain with us for many to come?

You remember the familiar words of the Christmas story found in the 19th and 20th verses of Luke's second chapter:

"Bul Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart."

"And the shophords returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and acen, as it was fold unto them." How many people, like Mary, punder these deep

things

Christmas in their hearts? How many, like the shepherds, return from the church services and the Christmas story, really glorify. ing and praising God for all the things they have heard and seen?

Those feelings of Mary, of the shepherds and of all whose lives were touched by this amazing incident in history-the birth of the Christ chill-idn't come to an end with Christmas night, but lived on, making them better people gloriously happy and all- ed with a new altitude toward life.

If we want to look uueŋ this whole experience of Christmas as just an exelling, colourful cele bration, Bomething we get all steamed up about once year and pour into a few hectie hours, we might as well forget about it ZIM far AS any religious signi ficance is concerned.

But if there is any truth at all In the premise that there is a liv. ing nicksage and strength for us in the Christmas experience, then we 100, now in our time, can grasp some of

feeling of the Mary and the shepherds.

What It Can Do For Us

Living in the Christmas glow is something we should want to do throughout the year, not just beenuse of the immediate uplift it gives us but because of what It can do for us every day of our lives.

Not to live amid the endless trappings and hectic preparations but amid the spirit and message of it; the glorious und thrilling message that Saviour has come to us, to give us a rebirth of mind and spirit, to save us from, the mean ani low and degrading things of life and to inspire us to that which is fine and good-to bring into

Like the shepherds, we must be anxious and willing to look for Jesus each day. When He does come to us, when we And la, just as with the shepherds, we've

Eternal Hope

We can go on living in the Christmas glow and have it to cheer us, comfort us, encourage un, uplifi us through the year, If we keep alive Its spirit of giving to other the spirit of cheering, helping, of giving our. Belves

But more than this, here in Christmas and ita elernal mes. sago in the source of power for achieving the kind of world, we want and need.
