A warning that foreign competition in export markets would soon shake British national economy to its foundations unless Britain im- proved her position by more and efficient out- put, was given here tonight by Mr. Herbert Morrison, Lord President of the Council and Government leader of the House of Commons. Addressing a meeting organised by the Smethwick Labour Party, Mr. Morrison stressed the need for cutting imports and increasing exports and declared that the Government must conduct a "great campaign" to remove import restric- tions by other countries on British goods.
