London, Sept. 11. American reaction to China's present currency policy appears to be so mixed that economists, expressing their views on the same day, have stated precisely opposite opinions of the likely results on Sino-American trade.
The Journal of Commerce, for example, stated that "The changed Chinese currency regula- tions permitting dealing in doliars around the open market rate may well encourage Chinese earnings of United States dollars through in- creased exports here and large remittances through legal channels, thus ultimately im- proving the outlook for American exports to China."
